Unknown Berries

A quick drive along an unfamiliar back road led me to these beautiful shrubs.  They were growing wild along the road so I picked a branch and brought it home with me.                I've been looking for hours and can't find anything other than a Goji berry that looks similar but the leaves don't appear the same.  Does anyone know this bush?

It must have been a great year for berries because the same road was loaded with Snowberries and Oregon Grape and dried Saskatoons.   I guess that explains why we have so many birds here.

  1. I have never seen that shrub. It is attractive though.

I'm seeing dried berries around here. They are good for the birds. I believe this is why there has been a slow down of birds visiting my feeders.

  2. What a gorgeous colour those berries are! But I'm afraid I don't recognise them either. I don't think they are goji berries - I have a couple of goji plants in pots that I grew from seed and the leaves were long and thin (before something ate them!). The way those leaves are growing reminds me of a quince - is there a wild quince plant, do you think? They're lovely and bright in any case so I don't suppose they'll last long with birds around!

Nope, I am not knowledgeable in plants; I am so clueless.

  6. The odd thing is looking at the close up I would almost swear it was a barberry - except there are no thorns, and barberry is a very low growing shrub. (Barberry shrubs are noted for their very sharp thorns). ATB!
