Why the shoes?

I didn't make it to the lake as the weather is still pretty unpredictable but while I was out I remembered these photos and wondered if anyone had heard of this before.
Hopefully  you can see the fenceposts are all topped with shoes, boots, runners and all manner of footwear.

The rest of the trip was spent admiring the peaceful scenery.  There's nothing like contented cows to calm the spirit.                     And for a finale, a quick walk in the sun dappled forest.

  2. I have never seen shoes used on top of fence posts. That's a cool way to recycle them. How very "Green" of them!:)
All your photos are very good.I really like the two taken in the forest because of the sunlight.

All soles are pointed toward heaven, a cowboy theme.I have seen it all over the continent.Charming post and photos.cows are relaxing to watch, not a care in the world other than to eat and ......Well, do what cows always like to do.Their serenity is fun to capture, plus I can call them over to the fence.Love the glade in the last pic.

  6. Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments and blogs.
Out on the prairie - that's a great theme and it makes sense then because there are quite a few cowboys around this area.

  7. In spite of all the other similarities, I don't think we have shoes on the fence posts round about here! But then we don't have cowboys either. We do have sheep rustlers though - quite a lot of them, apparently.

Those are gorgeous photos of the sunlight through the trees! Just the sort of thing I love to paint - when I've got time! Maybe you could paint them - when you've got time!!!!

  10. Out On The Prairie knows his stuff, so I'll go with that story. I've never seen shoes on fence posts before either. It's strange, but interesting.

  11. That place is great to dry those shoes. They probably hung the shoes on the fencepost to protect the shoes from the curious animals that may accidentally trample them. :)
