Marshmallow Farming

These are not two words you often see together but since we moved to this area, we've been intrigued by how the farmers protect their bales of hay.  You have to admit these bales really do look like marshmallows.

A little further down the road, we found the mint marshmallows.  They were a lovely shade of minty green and we began to wonder why no one makes a mint flavored marshmallow.
They would be great in hot chocolate and even in s'mores.

Then just as we were going home we found the lucky ones that will be getting these marshmallows .

  5. Yes, they really do! Imagine the size of hot chocolate you would need to put them in though :) When you mentioned the mint ones my mind went off on a tangent too!

Love the last photo, very peaceful looking.

  6. I always thought plastic covered hay looked like giant rolls of toilet paper. Tremendously ugly, and a very poor environmental practice. These giant sheets of plastic are often blown in to woodlots at the edges of field and neglectfully remain for years. There are new clear mesh covers that let the hay breath and don't have such a "plastic" appearance.

  7. Ours are usually wrapped in black plastic - some sort of liquorice, maybe? (But quite often they're not wrapped at all!)

  8. Oh YES!!!! You need to "invent" those mint marshmallows!!! I cannot believe what a good idea that is!

  10. We have the same here. Some are not protected but just rolled up. I don't think rectangle bales are even done anymore. And using a pitchfork to pitch hay in a hay mow is a thing of the past. Almost lick picking and shucking corn. Now it is mostly silage.
