Occasionally I help my grand kids with their paper route and I've noticed two trees with very unusual bark.
I have no idea what this first one is and didn't want to spend too much time taking pictures in a stranger's yard.
This second tree appears to be a common Lilac. I have lived around Lilacs my whole life and have never seen one with such unusual bark. Perhaps it's very old?
The neighborhood is one of the oldest and it looks as if the trees have been around quite a while.
Just popped out to look at the trunk of my lilac, which is somewhat hidden in a big hedge so I hadn't noticed it much. Down near the bottom, it's just like your photos, but as soon as the branches start (quite low down) the bark looks more 'normal'. Curious!
ReplyDeletei think it s very old , that why is looking that way ...nice photos
ReplyDeleteVery unusual. I have never seen a liliac as a tree except for a Japanese variety.Like the fragrance, I have a very large bush. The 1st almosts looks like it has repaired a lightening strike. When I wonder I have left a note in a mail box, many people like a compliment.
ReplyDeleteThese are cool looking trees! I would like to know the ID of the first one.
ReplyDeleteSuper photos, Carole!
if that is a lilac bush, it is HUGE!!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteThat first one is really different looking. I've never seen anything quite like that. That's one huge lilac, my dad had some huge bushes but nothing even close to that size
ReplyDeleteThese are most unusual, yet pretty in their own way. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,Ruth
Wow, the bark is pretty rustic, growing in all kinds of directions! Makes for interesting pictures for sure!
ReplyDeleteThat first tree is very interesting to me. I began noticing the bark on trees after reading a few of the information signs at a few nature parks. I have noticed many different kinds now, but yours is by far the most interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi Carole. Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. Now I can see your posts also. Those are very unusual looking trees. Fuzzy bark..Ha!
ReplyDeleteI would be right behind you taking photos and looking close at that tree. I think we think alike. Loved this . Thanks
