An Experiment with ACEO - Art Cards Editions and Originals

I had a friend tell me to make some of these little paintings. If you're not aware of them they are tiny original paintings 2.5 x3.5 the size of a baseball card or playing card.

I've always been intriqued by tiny art and thought I'd give it a try. I tend to put in a lot of detail and I hoped the small size would make it impossible to do. It was fun so I listed them on Etsy. I understand they were originally just traded but now people buy and sell them. So these are my first attempts.

Caught in the Act - This little crow has stolen a shiny key and is stashing it in its favorite place. Crows are well known for stealing shiny and other interesting bits and pieces they find but they are also know for giving them as gifts to people who are kind or feed them.

Morning Cup of Tea - Cute little Bluebird warming it's butt and feet over a cup of tea. He's looking a little sassy like he's not going to leave til they are warm.
Frustration - This little Seagull is frustrated. After joyfully spotting a french fry bag he realizes there's only one inside
Backoff it's Mine - Cute Little Hummingbird just found an unguarded group of bright red flowers (its favorite kind) Now he's full time guarding it himself. If you've ever met these little birds you know they are very feisty.
Bathtime is a very wet little Sparrow with sopping and disheveled feathers.
The Gossip its not based on a real bird character but imagined when you hear an American Robin go on and on in the morning or evening. One bird is talking and the other is looking tired of it all
Where are you? California Quail - If you've heard them you know that they call to each other to keep in touch. Whenever they see danger some part of their group will choose to run out in front of you whether your a little old lady hardly moving or a teenage boy in a sports car. The other ones remain behind. Now they're separated and the calling starts but how can you find fault with any critter that has that cute bobbing feather on their head,
I can hear you Great Blue Herons can stand perfectly still for hours while every other creature forgets they are even there. Pretty soon the frog or fish they scared away come back. The Heron has blended into it's environment so they aren't noticed but they are listening and watching.

Watercolor Wren Bird in Vineyard

I saw my first Wren last summer and was immediately mesmerized by its song.  It was living in a birdhouse placed in the park and it flew from the house to the shrubs and sang.

All About Birds by Cornell University is my go to for all things bird and they call it a pinnacle of song complexity,a rapid series of tumbling and trilling notes. This little wren was very joyful that morning and I could have stayed for hours listening as it flew from shrub to shrub.

One particularly adorable fact is that the male Pacific Wren builds multiple nests then leads his lady love to each so she can choose the one she wants.

The area where I live has many vineyards and apparently they love the shade and available water in these places that's why this little watercolor painting shows this one in a vineyard. Hopefully this link works so you can hear their beautiful song.

California Quail – The Social Explorer

California Quails are known for their sociability and distinctive appearance. If you're outgoing, enjoy group activities, and have a flair for the unique, the quail represents your adventurous and stylish side. Californial Quail are cheerful little birds that you quickly grow to love. They travel in flocks and are constantly slowing traffic down as they cross the highways. Like squirrels they will be 3/4 of the way across the road but upon seeing a car approaching they will turn around and go back the way they came instead of finishing that last 1/4 crossing. Beautiful markings and colors with a cute little plume of feathers make them outstanding and their fun call which always reminds me of Daffy Duck's woo hoo. Because they come from California I can imaging the creator of Daffy Duck sitting in his studio working on an idea when he hears that signature, "woo hoo," and gives Daffy Duck a voice. There are interesting facts about them such as: They can live without water by getting what they need from the food they eat. That works perfectly since they like to live in dry environments. They do group childcare and I've seen one mom with 25 babies or more many times. The babies seem to come whenever but are the cutest, tiniest little fluff balls. They are definitely one of my favorite birds,

Blue Jay Bird Personality: Quick Brave & Full of Color

Does this birds personality match yours or someone you love and/or need a gift for?

Bold, noisy, and unapologetically confident—the blue jay matches people who refuse to blend into the background.

If you like to stand up for your loved ones, voice your opinions loudly, and add a splash of color to everyday life, you’re a jay in disguise.

They’re protective, playful, and full of personality, just like those who embrace their inner spark.
